Visit our display at Ekka!

Grab your iconic strawberry sundae and visit us in the Ekka Agricultural Education Hall from 8 to 16 August to learn how you can help stop the spread of fire ants.

See live fire ants in a display tank, explore a giant 3D fire ant nest, and step into Aka's interactive science lab, where you can use microscopes to get a closer look at fire ants.

Emily Clasby, Director of Customer Experience and Engagement, said the Ekka is a valuable opportunity to connect with Queenslanders and raise awareness about fire ants.

'The Ekka allows us to engage directly with families, property owners and tenants, and visitors from across the state. By helping people understand the risks posed by fire ants and how to identify and report them, we can strengthen the national eradication effort,' Emily said.

Fire ants are an invasive pest that threatens agriculture, native wildlife, livestock, and curious outdoor pets. They pose a serious risk to Queensland’s health, environment, economy, and outdoor way of life.

At the Ekka, you will learn practical ways to stop the spread of fire ants and protect your family, property, and community. Don’t forget to pick up Aka’s activity book and program materials to continue the learning at home.

Together, we can protect Queensland and work towards a fire ant-free future.
