Eradication is the only way to protect Australia from fire ants and the devastating impacts they can have on our way of life.
We are currently undertaking fire ant eradication treatment on properties in parts of:
- Moreton Bay
- Somerset
- Lockyer Valley
- Southern Downs
- Scenic Rim
- Gold Coast
- Murwillumbah.
Under Australia's new Fire Ant Response Plan 2023–27, we will conduct eradication treatment from the outside-in. As fire ant populations are destroyed, we will progressively move to a new area.
Our current eradication area is a defined area that wraps around the inside of our surveillance area.
Treatment is safe for humans, animals and the environment and will be conducted:
- up to 6 rounds of treatment over 2 years, followed by 5 years of targeted surveillance
- using:
- handheld spreaders
- aircraft
- utility terrain vehicles
- whether you can see signs of fire ants or not
- at no charge to you.
We will need access to treat all properties in our eradication area and this needs to be done at a similar time others in the area.
