New Scenic Rim suburbs added to fire ant biosecurity zones

9 Jul 2021

Two Scenic Rim suburbs have been added to the fire ant biosecurity zones following several fire ant nests being found in Coulson and Tarome.

If you live or work in these areas, you must not move materials that can carry fire ants unless they meet the requirements outlined in the Biosecurity Regulation 2016.

Soil, hay, mulch, animal manure, quarry products, turf and potted plants are all high-risk for carrying fire ants.

Fire ant biosecurity zones are one of the measures the National Fire Ant Eradication Program uses to reduce the chance of fire ants being spread in high-risk materials.

We regularly review and amend the fire ant biosecurity zones as needed to manage the risk of fire ants being spread.

For more information on the fire ant biosecurity zones visit fireants.org.au or call 13 25 23.

The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is a nationally cost-shared program funded by all Australian state and territory governments, and the federal government.
