Why we need access
We need access to outdoor areas to:
- inspect for fire ants
- apply treatment
- check that the treatment is working.
We will visit your property several times for treatment and inspections.
Tell us about your property
If we’re treating your property, tell us about access issues, crops, animals and other features that could affect treatment.
If you provide your contact details, we can also let you know when we’re coming.
Call 13 22 68 or complete a:
- Property information form: for properties smaller than 5 hectares
- Treatment information form: for properties 5 hectares or larger.
Make your property accessible
Before we visit:
- unlock gates if it is safe and practical to do so
- secure dogs and other animals that could prevent safe access.
If you can’t provide safe access, call 13 22 68 before the visit to discuss alternative arrangements.
How to identify our officers
Our team includes government employees and authorised contractors.
All team members complete identity and background checks before visiting properties.
Our officers carry official government-issued identification. They usually wear high-visibility clothing and travel in vehicles displaying National Fire Ant Eradication Program branding.
Our officers visit properties between 7am and 3pm, Monday to Friday but can sometimes visit on weekends.
Queensland property access
You don't need to be home if we can safely access the outdoor areas we need to inspect or treat. If we can’t access your property, we'll leave a notice in your mailbox.
Where possible, we’ll work with you to arrange access, explain what we need to do and answer your questions.
Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, authorised officers can access outdoor areas of Queensland properties to inspect for and treat fire ants.
Penalties may apply if officers are prevented from carrying out their duties.
New South Wales property access
We'll contact you to arrange access to outdoor areas to inspect or treat.
We’ll explain the process and let you know whether you need to be home.
