How the treatment process works
Not sure if we’re treating your property?
Check your address
If you’re in the treatment area, we’ll visit your property several times. At each visit we may:
- assess your property
- inspect outdoor areas
- apply treatment products.
After the final treatment, we’ll continue to monitor the area for up to 5 years to check that fire ants have not returned.
All treatment and inspection visits are free.
Before treatment
We’ll let you know
If you live in the treatment area, we may:
- leave information in your mailbox
- place signs in the local area
- visit your property
- call or text you if you’ve given us your phone number
- hold community information sessions.
Treatment dates may change due to weather, access requirements or operational needs.
Help us plan your treatment
Help us plan for your property by letting us know about access issues, animals, crops and other features that may affect treatment.
Call 13 22 68 or complete a form online.
Prepare outdoor areas
You can help the treatment get to where it needs to go by:
- mowing long grass
- pruning overgrown plants
- clearing heavy leaf litter
- moving outdoor furniture and toys.
On treatment day
Queensland
You don’t need to be home if we can safely access the outdoor areas that need treatment.
If you’re home, we can explain the treatment approach and answer your questions before we begin.
New South Wales
We’ll contact you to arrange access.
Keep animals away during application
We may ask you to keep pets indoors or move horses, livestock and poultry while we work.
Learn more about treatment and animal safety.
If you have specific questions regarding your animals, contact us before the visit.
After treatment
You and your animals (except for poultry) can usually enter treated areas after we’ve applied the product.
To give fire ants time to collect the treatment:
- keep poultry away from treated areas for 24 hours
- don’t mow, water or disturb treated areas for 48 hours.
We’ll leave a treatment slip explaining what treatment we applied, any property-specific instructions and how to contact us if you have any questions.
